Background On IDE
IDE has been operating in Myanmar for over four and half years. It has an MOU with the Government to operate programs in over 105 townships across Myanmar, in nine States and Divisions. They have permission to work in all of the townships most heavily damaged by cyclone Nargis and have existing relationships with local officials in nearly every area. They have over 125 field staff in place and are able to operate relatively freely – without government interference - in the affected areas. Prior to the cyclone, their staff had worked in several thousand villages in this area. While not a relief agency, They have trained and dedicated staff plus extensive logistics expertise using local private trucking companies throughout the Irrawaddy Delta.
